What is ZEISS SMILE Surgery?

Wang Vision Institute was the first in the state of Tennessee to perform ZEISS SMILE surgery. If you have been told you're not a candidate for LASIK, ZEISS SMILE may be right for you.

What is ZEISS SMILE surgery?

ZEISS SMILE is a small incision laser vision procedure that is bladeless. ZEISS SMILE has unique advantages over LASIK because it is less invasive and does not require a flap. Our skilled team will use refractive surgery techniques to create a small incision (4-6 mm) in the eye to correct vision issues.

During ZEISS SMILE surgery, your ophthalmologist will take measurements of your eye to garner precise results. Anesthetic drops will be used to numb the eye while a device keeps patients from blinking during the procedure. The incision will then be made and vision corrected.

Recovery time after ZEISS SMILE surgery varies per patient, but most patients are able to return to daily tasks 1 to 2 days after surgery. Patients will need a reliable adult to drive them home post-surgery, and should rest and administer their eye drops post-surgery.

ZEISS SMILE surgery should be painless and should take as little as 20 minutes. This surgery is a great option for those looking for a less-invasive vision correction procedure that may not be candidates for LASIK. Restore your vision with minimal recovery and ditch contacts and glasses!
