What is AMCL?

Wang Vision Institute is proud to be at the forefront of revolutionizing modern ocular care. After spending two decades studying the regenerative medical properties that exist within the amniotic membrane and placenta, Wang Vision is proud to offer AMCL to improve vision and change the lives of patients with dry eye syndrome or corneal scarring.

A Safe and Innovative Solution

World-renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Ming Wang, Harvard & MIT, Ph.D. (laser physics) carefully studied the properties of donated amniotic membranes and found that the amnion possesses regenerative and healing properties that are both safe and effective to help with a range of eye-related conditions. After 16 years of research and study, he developed the world’s first AMCL to use for patients across Nashville, TN, and beyond.

What is AMCL?

The Amniotic Membrane Contact Lens (AMCL) is a natural healing lens.  It utilizes the fetal wound-healing property of the amniotic membrane to help heal the ocular surface of dry eyes that have not been responsive to other conventional treatments. Amniotic membrane tissues, which come from the innermost layer of the placenta, have been used for medical purposes for nearly 70 years. However, recent advancements in research, techniques, and technologies allowed medical professionals to utilize the amnion in new ways.

Benefits of AMCL

AMCL is an effective treatment for dry eyes and corneal scarring. For dry eyes, it is used to reduce inflammation and discomfort and allows the ocular surface to heal and recover from the damage caused by dryness. Additionally, AMCL is also used to treat patients with vision impairment due to corneal scarring. By reducing inflammation and discomfort, those with corneal scars may also benefit from the effects of the amniotic membrane contact lens treatment.

Who is a Good Candidate for AMCL?

If you’ve struggled with dry eye syndrome in the past and cannot find relief through medications or other treatments, then the AMCL may be an excellent solution. In addition, those who suffer from corneal scarring that has resulted in vision impairments can reduce the scar tissue and improve their vision with this revolutionary amniotic membrane application. To fully determine your candidacy, schedule a consultation with a member of our ophthalmology team so they can meet with you to discuss your condition, symptoms, and treatment history.

This simple yet effective nonsurgical treatment can often be performed in just a few minutes at our Nashville, TN, office. Our team is excited to offer this innovative treatment for men and women struggling with dry eye or other vision complications.

If you’re interested in or may be a good candidate for AMCL, schedule a consultation with one of our doctors today. You can also learn more about our AMCL procedure at our next FREE Online Vision Seminar  every Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. CST.
