How to Care for Dry Eyes
- Add moisture to your environment with a humidifier.
- Avoid blowing air directly into your eyes. Stay away from direct contact with fans, heaters, and AC units.
- Take breaks during long or intensive tasks. Give your eyes a break from staring at computer screens or small text. Try the 20/20/20 rule where you stare at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
- Wear protective eye wear such as sunglasses when you are outside to block wind or environmental stressors.
- Be aware of your environment. Dryer areas such as those at high altitude are more likely to cause tear evaporation. Know what kind of climate you are dealing with and how to avoid these issues.
- Use artificial tears regularly. Consult with your eye doctor for the right type of artificial tears for you, and use as prescribed.
