At Wang Vision, we specialize in today’s most advanced vision correction procedures. We are pleased to offer a variety of revolutionary treatments for those looking to achieve clearer, more precise vision without the help of glasses and contacts. Unsure which eye correction procedure is best for you? Read below to learn which surgery might be the best for you!
LASIK
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is the most popular refractive treatment in ophthalmology. At Wang Vision Institute, we were the first center in the state with Soft-Touch LASIK, which uses less than a third of the pressure on the eye than traditional LASIK.
LASIK Candidates
Recent advancements in LASIK procedures have allowed more and more individuals to be eligible as candidates for this surgery. However, LASIK is typically the best refractive surgery option for those with myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism. Other general requirements are:
- The individual is at least 18 years old
- Must have plenty of corneal thickness
Some eye diseases or medical concerns may affect a person’s candidacy. However, Wang Vision offers other refractive surgeries, such as PRK, that might still be a good option.
PRK
Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) provides results equivalent to other laser vision correction procedures. PRK is similar to other laser eye surgery methods in that it is performed to resolve or improve vision problems, such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. It may be a practical solution for those who may not have enough corneal tissue or suffer from a particular eye disease that has made them ineligible for LASIK.
PRK Candidates
General requirements for PRK include the following:
- The individual is at least 18 years old
- Have had a stable glasses prescription for one year
Although PRK provides similar results to LASIK, there is a lengthier recovery process. If you want a less invasive option, then ZEISS SMILE may be the best vision correction procedure for you!
ZEISS SMILE
ZEISS SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction) is a newly developed laser vision correction surgery first performed here at our Nashville office. It is similar to LASIK as it is a bladeless, refractive eye procure that improves your vision without the daily dependence on glasses or contact lenses. However, ZEISS SMILE has unique advantages over LASIK in that it is less invasive, requires a smaller incision, and doesn’t require a flap, which reduces the risk of postoperative complications.
ZEISS SMILE Candidates
We recommend ZEISS SMILE procedures for patients who have myopia or mild to moderate astigmatism. Other general requirements for ZEISS SMILE vision correction procedures include the following:
- The individual is at least 18 years old
- Has a stable glasses prescription
- In overall good health
- Possess healthy corneas
Forever Young™ Lens
Forever Young™ lens surgery was explicitly designed to help patients in their 40s and over reduce their dependence on glasses and contacts by exchanging their eye’s natural lens with an artificial one designed to improve their vision. This innovative technique gets its name (“forever young”) from the effects the lens has on a patient’s reading ability and reduced dependence on glasses, keeping the patient’s eyes “Forever Young.”
Forever Young™ Lens Candidates
Forever Young™ lens surgery is a great vision correction procedure for those over the age of 40 with age-related vision loss or presbyopia looking to improve both their near and distance vision. Other general requirements for Forever Young™ lens surgery include the following:
- The best candidates are usually 45 or older, however, this does not exclude younger patients from being a candidate for this surgery!
You may not qualify for Forever Young™ lens surgery if you have certain corneal diseases, eye conditions, infections, or other medical disorders that can slow or prevent healing.
To determine your candidacy for any of our vision correction procedures, our team at Wang Vision Institute will conduct a comprehensive eye evaluation and assess your current eye health, condition, medical history, and goals for treatment to determine which procedure is the best option for your unique situation.
